The film does not do much to separate itself from prior installments “Avatar” and “The Way of Water,” but it makes for an entertaining and visually compelling watch — even with its rehashed and repetitive storylines.
James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is finally on the horizon. The third chapter in his epic sci-fi saga, which began with 2009’s “Avatar” and continued with 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water,” is arriving in theaters this Christmas.
Critical response for Fire and Ash has been mixed, and now moviegoing audiences are finally able to head to theaters and form their own opinions. In CinemaBlend's Avatar 3 review, I praised the movie's emotional impact, but thought that some of the magic of the franchise was lost in favor of its larger narrative.
"Avatar: Fire and Ash" has passed the $1 billion mark after a strong weekend, becoming James Cameron's fourth film to do so.
Lionsgate’s The Housemaid is currently claiming third with $12M+ at 3,070 theaters, -22%, after a $4.6M Friday. Total by Sunday for the Paul Feig directed thriller, Hidden Pictures production is $72.8M, which will be far past the filmmaker’s previous Lionsgate black comedy, A Simple Favor, which ended its stateside run at $53.5M.

Fire and Ash” atop the box office for the third straight week and with hopes for a blockbuster-filled year after a disappointing 2025. In three weeks of release, “Fire and Ash” has cleared $1 billion worldwide.
