The National Weather Service issues a litany of notices before and during inclement weather events. They can be important signals on how to respond.
Winter weather brings various hazards that people have to contend with to keep warm and safe. These dangers can include carbon monoxide poisoning, hypothermia and frozen pipes that can burst and make homes unlivable.
On Friday at 12:49 a.m. a winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service valid from 3 p.m. until Saturday 10 a.m. for Orleans, Monroe, Wayne and Cayuga counties.
A winter storm is expected to wallop a huge chunk of the U.S. from the southwest, into the Plains, the Deep South, and the eastern seaboard. Heavy snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain are forecast.
