TikTok has finalized a deal to create a new American entity, avoiding the looming threat of a ban in the United States that has been in discussion for years on the platform now used by more than 200 million Americans.

TikTok and its Chinese parent ByteDance Ltd. have closed a long-awaited deal to transfer parts of its US operations to American investors, securing the popular video app’s future in the US and avoiding a nationwide ban.

TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance, on Thursday said it has finalized a deal to establish a majority American-owned joint venture that will secure U.S. data, to avoid a U.S. ban on the short video app used by over 200 million Americans.

TikTok announced on Thursday that it has finalised a deal that will allow the hugely popular short-video app to continue operating in the US. The deal comes after a years-long tussle between Washington and Beijing that began in Trump's first term in the White House when he tried unsuccessfully to ban the app over national security concerns.
