Nearly 200,000 users reported their service being disrupted on Wednesday, according to Downdetector, with reports flooding in around noon. Verizon internet and phone services experienced widespread outages Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 14. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks user-reported service issues, more than 150,000 outages had been reported as of Wednesday afternoon. Verizon acknowledged the problem in a statement posted on the social media platform X.
When iPhones aren’t connected to a cellular network, they will typically alert the user by giving an indication in the phone’s status bar. Those notifications usually say “No Service” or “Searching,” but your phone may also say “SOS” or “SOS only.”
Outage tracker Downdetector showed that Verizon customers began to report issues with their service around 11 a.m. Iowa time. Reports appeared to peak at more than 175,000 by 11:30 a.m. — but still remained elevated later into the afternoon, sitting at nearly 57,000 as of 2:30 p.m. Iowa time.
